Super One Series – Senior X30, Whilton Mill, Rd.3
May 13th/14th

Our first trip to Whilton Mill for a couple of years and only an hour’s drive from home; this makes a pleasant change after all the long trips to Rowrah. Another dry weekend forecast so maybe slicks all weekend and hopefully a good set after the problems at Rowrah. Friday testing went well, as usual, with Will right on the pace and looking forward to the weekends racing. A solid qualifying session left Will 4th in his group and 10th place overall and a row 3 start for both his heats.

In heat 1 Will made up 1 place from his starting position to finish 4th and in heat 2 fell back a couple of places to finish 7th. This gave him a 4th row starting slot for the first Final and a good chance of picking up some valuable points in the Championship. Will made a strong start from 7th in the first Final moving up to 4th by the 2nd lap and showing good pace. Will was pushed back to 5th on lap 5 but managed to maintain this to the flag while pulling away from those behind. A 5th pace inside row looked a good position to start the 2nd Final and Will was looking forward to having a strong result. However, being shunted off twice on the opening lap, Will dropped back to 9th place and on the 4th lap he was again forced off the track by another driver’s over ambitious move. This dropped him back to 33rd place and with a bent kart and petrol soaking his overalls he eventually retired on lap 12. So another disappointing result for Will and the team, this time caused by the poor driving standards of some of his fellow competitors. Thanks to the team for all their support and to all Will’s supporters. Seniors is tough, but we are confident that before the end of the season, Will’s determination and resilience will pull in some better results.
